About

Jasmijn Vermeeren (1996) is a Dutch crip artist who uses photography as the foundation of her practice. Her work draws from lived experiences with disability and focuses on identity, belonging and normalcy.

Vermeeren’s practice is about exploring emotions without judgment and examining the intricate layers of the self through embracing the ambiguity of who one is, choosing vulnerability, and cultivating a sense of curiosity. Through this process, she questions the identities imposed upon her and explores the complex relationship between personal identity and societal expectations.

While photography remains at the core of her practice, it is often combined with other mediums such as installation, video, and sculpture, seeing as for Vermeeren form follows function. While her methodology shifts depending on what the work requires, collage remains a constant thread throughout her practice – for its ability to reflect identity not as a stable truth, but as something that is, layered, constructed, and continuously in flux.

Vermeeren graduated from the Royal Academy of Art (KABK) in The Hague in 2025. Her graduation work ‘You Don’t Look Sick’ was presented as a solo exhibition at Foam 3h in 2026. She has also been featured in various group exhibitions including Melkweg Expo (2025), Sexyland World (2024), Ons' Lieve Heer op Solder (2024) in Amsterdam and The Grey Space in the Middle in The Hague (2023). Vermeeren is part of the artist collective Verbloemd: a platform for and by creators with invisible disabilities that promotes awareness, recognition, and mutual connection.
